Retired solider to challenge Ron Kind for House seat

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A retired soldier has announced a bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Ron Kind next year. Republican Steve Toft of Osseo announced his candidacy in a news release on Friday. He planned news conferences in Eau Claire and La Crosse later in the day to discuss his plans with reporters. Toft served 32 years in the U.S. Army. He retired last year. Kind, a La Crosse Democrat, has represented western Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District since 1997. A voicemail left at Kind’s campaign headquarters on Friday wasn’t immediately returned. Man Convicted of Sauk County Bank Robbery

Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Julian Thomas, 41, Madison, Wis., was found guilty today of armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during that crime of violence.  The jury reached its verdict after 10 hours of deliberation following two days of testimony in federal court in Madison. The evidence presented at trial showed that Thomas and James Thompson robbed People’s Community Bank in Plain, Wis., on October 7, 2014.  Thompson, 29, also of Madison, pleaded guilty in federal court on October 6 to committing the bank robbery and doing so by brandishing a firearm.  He testified during the trial about
