(Madison, WI)  —  A state DNR official says there is little chance that the invasive Asian carp will march up the Wisconsin River. That’s after five adult bigheads were found below a river dam at Prairie du Sac. Bob Wakeman, the DNR’s aquatic invasive species coordinator, says the dam is higher than any fish could jump across and the speed of the water at the gates is faster than what the fish could swim through. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the Prairie du Sac dam opened 103 years ago to generate hydroelectric power, but it’s also proving to be a key barrier against invasive species in Wisconsin’s inland waters. (Madison, WI)  —  A new chief federal prosecutor has been sworn in for the western half of Wisconsin. Waushara County District Attorney Scott Blader took his oath Wednesday in Madison, where his new US attorney’s office is located. Blader replaces John Vaudreil, who was asked to resign earlier this year to give President Donald Trump a chance to name his own US attorneys throughout the nation. Trump nominated Blader in August, and the Senate confirmed the appointment this month. Blader says he’ll work with numerous officials to address challenges like violent gun crimes, drug dealing, and human trafficking. (Fredonia, WI)  —  A deer hunter is recovering from a leg wound after two members of his hunting party shot him. Ozaukee County sheriff’s deputies say the two shooters were trying to hit a deer near Fredonia Wednesday, when their bullets went toward a 53-year-old Random Lake man and he was flown to a Milwaukee hospital with a wound to his upper left leg. The state DNR is investigating the incident with help from Ozaukee County deputies. At least two hunters have died and four wounded during the nine day gun deer season that ends Sunday.
