Several local schools are receiving sparsity aid, according to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Sparsity aid was awarded in the 2017-2018 school year to 144 school districts to help address the needs of rural schools. A district must have no more than 745 student and fewer than 10 students per square mile to be eligible for the aid. The membership total from eligible school districts required that the statutory sparsity aid payment of $300 per member be prorated at 98.84 percent this year for an actual payment of $296.52 per member.
