Illinois Man Arrested for Pointing Gun in Juneau County
On Monday, October 15, at 2:54 pm the Sheriff’s Office received a report of driving complaint where a subject in a vehicle displayed and fired a firearm. The initial incident occurred on Hwy 12 & 16 near the intersection of 57th Street west of Lyndon Station. The operator of a vehicle, John Weingart, (age 47 of of McHenry, IL), passed a vehicle driven by a Mauston man unsafely. The Mauston man followed Weingart to report the matter to police. In Lyndon Station Weingart pulled his vehicle over and the reporting party parked behind Weingart. At this time the reporting party advised Weingart exited his vehicle with a firearm and pointed it at his vehicle. Weingart then got into his vehicle and drove east on Hwy 12 & 16. East of Lyndon Station Weingart again pulled over. He exited his vehicle with a handgun and fired two shots toward the railroad tracks. It is alleged that Weingart then pointed the firearm at the reporting party’s vehicle again and then got back into his vehicle and drove away. Weingart was stopped a short time later by a Wisconsin Dells Officer. Four firearms were recovered from a search of Weingart’s vehicle. The incident remains under investigation. Weingart was taken into custody and turned over to a Juneau County Deputy at the Wisconsin Dells Police Department. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Portage Police Department assisted on the traffic stop.
Weingart was tentatively charged with Intentionally Pointing a Firearm at Another Person, Disorderly Conduct and Discharging a Firearm from a Roadway.
