Ott, Ronald “Ronnie” D., age 82 of Wonewoc

Ronald “Ronnie” Ott, age 82 of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 peacefully at his home with his family at his side.

Ronnie was the son of Fred and Edna (Preuss) Ott, born August 6, 1936 on a rural Wonewoc farm in the Summit Township with eight siblings. He attended a county school in the township as many kids did back in those days. He and his brothers made many memories on the farm together which began his love of farming and hunting. Ronnie graduated from Wonewoc High School in 1954 and 4 years later married his high school sweetheart, Janet (Gehri) Ott. Ronnie and Janet celebrated their 60lh year together in June 2018.

Ronnie was drafted into the US Army in the early 1960’s at the time of the Cuba Missile Crisis, while his wife, Janet embarked upon her teaching career. After returning Ronnie began building his home for him and Janet in Southtown and Ott’s Plumbing and Pump Service business across the street, where he was self-employed for over 40 years. Ronnie and Janet raised two children, Julie and Brian who have remained in little Wonewoc all their lives. With the plumbing business securely in place with the help of his best friend and brother Gordie, Ronnie pursued his other business interest in farming; purchasing an 80 acre farm in 1974 on County G in Wonewoc. With an old Allis Chalmers D-17 and early model machinery to harvest oats and corn into shocks, his dream was taking shape. Ronnie raised beef cattle and some of the best crops in the country. He later bought his and Julie’s farm in 1994, with additional farm land and of course…..hunting land! Ronnie and the family of “Otts” have a passion for hunting and would spend hours in the woods and more hours telling stories of the big hunt!

Ronnie was deeply involved with community being a church council member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Village of Wonewoc Board Trustee, Wonewoc American Legion and Wonewoc Area Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling, slow pitch softball, trap shooting, and golf with his friends but in most recent years could find him on County Rd G driving at a snail’s pace of 30 mph coming and going to his farms where he spent countless hours tending to his crops and fattening his cattle.

Ronnie was a loving care giver and provider to his family, friends, and community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ronnie is survived by his wife Janet; daughter Julie and son Brian, both of Wonewoc; son Roger (Macky) McAllister of Clinton ME and three grandchildren, Jillie, Gunner, and Josie all from Clinton, ME. Brothers, Robert (Ethel) Ott, Lloyd (LaVonne) Ott, and Gordie Ott all of Wonewoc; Sister, Delores Wells of Wonewoc and Sister Janice Maus of Fargo, ND. Many additional in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Ott; sons Steven and Jason Ott; brother Adolf “Bud” Ott; sister Ruby Grilley, and sister Norma Wells.
