Police Chief’s Nephew Pleads No Contest To Battering Charge
The 23-year-old nephew of Madison Police Chief Mike Koval has reached a plea agreement for his role in a December incident. Connor Koval will be on probation for 18 months after pleading no contest to a charge of battering a law enforcement officer. Police say Koval lunged at Sergeant Matthew Baker outside a Madison bar, scratched Baker’s cheek and jabbed at his throat while knocking his glasses off. Koval told the officers he would have his uncle fire them and he said he hoped the arresting officers would be shot. His attorney says Koval was intoxicated and is embarrassed he put his uncle in an awkward position.
