Kendall Man Tries Selling Stolen Firearms in Mauston

A 38 year old Kendall man is facing multiple charges after stealing his brother’s guns and trying to sell them.  On June 5th Mauston Authorities received a call from a subject who claimed a man with a young child tried selling him firearms.  He said the man seemed high on cocaine.  This took place on Gateway Avenue in Mauston.  A Mauston detective made contact with the man identified as Benjamin Winchel.  The detective patted Winchel down to make sure he did not have any weapons on him.  During the pat down the detective found two crack pipes on Winchel.  Winchel told authorities he was trying to get rid of the crack pipes because of the young child in the vehicle.  Winchel also said he had three firearms in his truck, saying he knew he shouldn’t have them because he was a convicted felon.  He also stated he stole the guns from his brother and was trying to sell them due to money issues.  Authorities called the brother who said he did not give his Benjamin Winchel permission to take or sell the guns.  Benjamin Winchel is facing multiple charges including Possession of Firearm By a Felon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and multiple counts of Bail Jumping.
