Robbery and Vehicle Stolen in Sparta

Monroe County Sheriff Scott Perkins reports an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of 1/22/2018. Shortly after 2:30am Monroe County Dispatch received a call of a robbery and vehicle theft that occurred in the Town of Sparta.
The caller advised that the suspected had entered her residence and assaulted the caller before taking personal belongings and car keys. The suspect then took the caller’s vehicle. The suspect was located and taken into custody by Tomah Police following a pursuit with the stolen vehicle.
The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle into a guardrail. The suspect was injured in the crash and was taken to a Madison hospital. The suspect remains in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges.
There is not believed to be any further danger to the public related to this incident.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were Sparta Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Tomah Police Department, Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, and the Monroe County 911 Communications Center.
No names are being released at this time and the incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
