Hillsboro House Fire
Sheriff John B. Spears, reports a house fire that was reported to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, 911 Communications center on January 18th, 2018 at 10:47am. John G. Wanless age 90 of Rural Hillsboro, Wisconsin reported the chimney fire and is also the owner of the house. The property is located in the Town of Hillsboro, off from Subera Road, Vernon County.
Hillsboro Fire Department, Hillsboro EMS, Wonewoc Fire Department and Deputy Larry Howell of the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the fire by Vernon County 911 Communications center. Deputy Howell was the first emergency personnel to arrive on scene, at 10:53am, when he observed smoke coming from the house. Information was that the owner and caller may still be in the house if he was not already outside and he was an elderly person. Deputy Howell made entry into the smoke filled house, prior to Hillsboro Fire Department arriving, and located Mr. Wanless and helped him out of the house to the outside porch area where he was met by the first arriving members of the Hillsboro Fire Department, and they assisted in getting Mr. Wanless away from the house and into an ambulance. Mr. Wanless was taken to Gunderson St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro by Hillsboro Area Ambulance service for smoke inhalation.
Assisting Hillsboro Fire Department at the scene was Hillsboro EMS, Wonewoc Fire Department, Vernon Electric Cooperative, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and a Town of Hillsboro sand truck.
The fire will be under investigation by the Hillsboro Fire Department.
