Malfunctioning Brakes May Be Contributing Factor in Car Vs Pedestrian Accident

Malfunctioning brakes are believed to be a contributing factor for a car vs. pedestrian accident in Tomah Tuesday afternoon. Tomah Police said a 17-year-old was driving north on Superior Avenue when she struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk at East Brownell Street. The driver indicated that she was unable to stop for the pedestrian because the brakes on her vehicle appeared to have malfunctioned. There were other vehicles stopped in the intersection at the time of the accident. The victim, a 14 year old female, was transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital with significant, but non-life threatening injuries. An inspection of the vehicle on scene showed the brakes may have been a contributing factor in this accident. This case remains under investigation by the Tomah Police Department.

The Tomah Police Department was assisted by members of the Tomah Area Ambulance Service, Tomah Fire Department, Monroe County Communications Center, Larkins’ and numerous concerned citizens.
