Tomah Memorial Hospital Conducting Live Simulated Active Shooter Exercise October 18th

Tomah area residents may notice a few extra emergency vehicles as Tomah Memorial Hospital will conduct a live simulated active shooter exercise Oct. 18.

According to hospital emergency preparedness specialist James Newlun, the training exercise is a follow-up to ALICE training completed by staff last spring.

ALICE – which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate – is the nation’s first training program for citizens to increase their survival chances and save lives, if faced with a violent intruder or active shooter.

Newlun said as part of the training exercise, a simulated active shooter scenario will take place from approximately 8 a.m. till noon involving hospital staff, Tomah Police, Tomah Fire, Tomah Area Ambulance Service and Monroe County 9-1-1 Communications Center staff.

He said it is important for the public and residents living near the hospital to be aware that the event is a planned training exercise.

Back in April, hospital staff completed active shooter exercise training conducted by certified hospital ALICE trainers.
