One Injured in Two Vehicle Collision in Vernon County

One person received non-life threatening injuries in a two vehicle collision Tuesday morning in the Village of Readstown. Vern on County Sheriff John Spears said in a release 46-year-old Wayne M. Keenan of Viroqua was operating a pickup truck eastbound on US Highway 14, when his vehicle collided with the rear of another eastbound vehicle, driven by 41-year-old Shayne M. Meyer of rural Westby. The Meyer vehicle was attempting a left turn into the Kickapoo Kwik Stop when the crash occurred.  The Meyer vehicle travelled through the parking lot and struck the heavy, steel support system for a sign owned by the private business.  The right side of the Meyer vehicle impacted the sign supports causing the right side of the vehicle to become airborne.  Loose items in the bed of the pickup also became airborne and struck the rear window and may have struck the operator.  The Meyer vehicle came to rest, on its wheels, in the parking lot between the convenience store and fuel pump islands.  The Keenan vehicle went slightly right, onto the paved shoulder of the highway, but control was maintained and the vehicle was driven into the parking lot. Meyer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare. Meyer was treated and released.  The airbag deployed in the Keenan vehicle.  Both operators were wearing seat belts.  The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Readstown Police Department.
