Merrimac Man Faces 5th OWI After Crashing Car in Sauk County
On August 5, 2017 at 6:00pm the Sauk County Communications Center received a call of a single vehicle crash on CTH W east of Neuman Road in the Town of Greenfield. A witness said the vehicle was occupied by one male subject later identified as Jason A. Fernald, age 44 of Merrimac, Wisconsin. The witness staed that Fernald was east bound on CTH W at a high rate of speed and lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve. The vehicle then struck a guide-wire for a power pole and some trees after travelling over 1000 feet on the roadway and in the ditch line.
The witness said the driver, Fernald exited the vehicle and walked to a nearby residence where he was later located and identified by deputies. Fernald suffered minor injuries and was transported by Baraboo Ambulance to St Clare Hospital in Baraboo.
Jason Fernald was issued citations for operating while intoxicated for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated 5th offense, operating after revocation, resisting arrest and discharging bodily fluid at a public safety officer and other traffic related offenses to include open intoxicants and unsafe lane deviation. Fernald was later transported to the Sauk County Jail
This incident is still under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Baraboo Fire Department and Baraboo Ambulance.
