Mauston Educator awarded $3,000 Grant

Mauston teacher Rachel Ann Tamborino has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Wisconsin Educators Association.  The grant will go towards Tamborinos Clothing/Food Pantry project she is starting to benefit students.  Tamborino knows not all children are able to purchase fashionable clothing and are teased because of it.  She wants to give kids of all income a chance to experience the shopping experience while still remaining free.  She hopes this will help eliminate the stigma of some students being labeled as “poor”.  Tamborino says the idea for this project came from her own students, suggesting opening up their own school closet.  The grant will go towards metal shelving, hangers, a shoe rack, plastic drawers and totes, storage cubes and dressers, a full length mirror, paint for the walls, and also canvas bags for students to take home.  Tamborino believes the total cost would estimate right around the $3,000 the grant offers.
