Janechek, Carmilla Huffman, age 90, of Mauston
Carmilla Huffman Janechek , 90, of Mauston, died at Wisconsin Dells Health Services on December 26 .
She was born September 21, 1927 in Summit Township, Sauk County, to Samuel Everett and Anna (Daly) Huffman. After her mother’s death when she was 2, she was raised by her Aunt Mae and Uncle Glenn Kelley in Wonewoc. She spent her summers on the Huffman farm with her father and brother, Harlin Huffman. She graduated in 1945 from Wonewoc High School and in 1947 from Sauk County Normal School. She taught school in Plum Valley until her marriage to Harvey Otto Janechek on December 27, 1947 in LaValle. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.
They moved to Mauston in 1952 after their first 3 daughters were born, to manage and later own Eastside Grocery, originally owned by her Aunt Mae and Uncle Glenn Kelley. They sold the store in 1968 and farmed full time while raising their 7 children on the farm on Hwy K.
She loved to cook for her large family and crocheted & knitted many wonderful blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they were born. She made kitchen towels and potholders for her family long into her life. She and Harvey loved to travel across the United States, visiting children and many historical places. They spent many happy days at their family cabin on Lac Court Oreilles near Hayward where they enjoyed moonrises and loons across the lake.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harvey on December 11, 2010, as well as her parents and brother.
She is survived by her 7 children: Linda Pyke, Elizabethton, TN; Carol (John) Ennis, Newport, NC; Jan (Jim) Moran, Bloomer, WI; Donna Holtz, Onalaska, WI; Gail (Bill) Vinopal, Mauston; Elaine (Tom) Smith, LaCrosse, WI; and Alan (Susan)Janechek, Costa Mesa, CA.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Christopher, Jason, Travis, Bryan, Matthew, Kristi, Bob, Julie, Justin, Brad, Kelli, Jenni, Betsy, Melissa, Keith, Eddie and Katie. She is also survived by 26 great grandchildren. She is further survived by sister-in-law Arlene Janechek of Mauston and a special cousin, Barb (Cryril) Statz of Waunakee
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Crandall Funeral Home, Mauston, where friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Valle.
