Mauston High School Cross Country results from Saturday 10/7/17

The MHS Golden Eagle cross country teams competed at the 2017 Rapids Invite hosted by Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School on Saturday October 7th. The competition was held at the Ridges Golf Course, the site of WIAA state cross country championships. ” This meet was our final turn up as we approach our championship series, conference, sectionals and state. A fast course, and some of the best teams in the state is a great venue to be able evaluate training and all the other preparation our teams have put into our season. Given the results of the meet, we are very pleased with where we are as we approach the most exciting part of our competitive season. The hay is in the barn and we are ready to rock and roll” stated MHS CC coach Bill DeVoe. The MHS girls varsity team raced their way to a 2nd place finish in the Division 2/3 teams. ” Their goal was to be in the top three in the division but the most impressive part of their team performance was that that they placed in the top three overall. Pretty good stuff to look at the overall results and see Stevens Point , Dells then Mauston with twenty three teams after MHS..Even better was to see the smiles on the girls faces when they realized what their efforts had accomplished. We have won our division at this meet in previous competitions at this meet but placing third overall is the best we have ever accomplished at this meet since I have been the head coach at MHS . It was a very impressive performance” commented Coach DeVoe. The GV team was led by medalist performances by a pair of sophomores, Journey Malacina 4th 19:54 and Anna Boppart 18th 21:13.” It was really exciting to see Journey and Anna racing up in the medalist group, they did an outstanding job. Combine that with the rest of the pack racing at pr race pace ,Grace,Mya,Isabell,Jill,Kelsey and Crystal were all racing so their best could do what it could do, really fun stuff” commented Coach DeVoe. The team scores for the top three teams in the division: Wisconsin Dells 58,Mauston 122,Darlington 126.
