Monroe County Sheriff Candidates Speak During Forum Held at Tomah High School

All 5 candidates vying for the Monroe County Sheriff’s position attended a forum held at the Tomah High School Auditorium Tuesday night.  The forum was put on by the Tomah & Sparta Chambers of Commerce and local media outlets.  Former Tomah Police Chief Wes Revels and Ron Waddell the current Lieutenant of Operations in the Tomah Police Department both touted their experience.  They believe their experience gives them an edge over other candidates in the field.  Monroe County Jail Correctional Officer Jeff Schwanz made the Justice center the focal point of his agenda during the forum.  Schwanz believes improvements need to be made to allow the county to retain Correctional Officers.  Schwanz believes the job pays very well and doesn’t understand why they can’t keep employees at the County Jail.  Wilton Police Chief Jeremy Likely said he is by far the youngest candidate in the race at 31 years of age, but says he will give 100% if elected sheriff.  Likely said he is more than willing and expects to spend over 40 hours a week as sheriff.  Rick Dickenson believes current Sheriff Scott Perkins has done a great job and wants to keep the torch going that Perkins has lit.  All candidates agreed the election should not be a partisan election.  Schwanz is the lone democratic candidate and will face the republican winner of Tuesday, August 14th primary election.
