Mehne, Margaret Drea, age 93 of Mauston
Margaret Drea Mehne, 93, of Mauston, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston, Wisconsin. She was born November 22, 1924 in Baraboo, Wisconsin, to Margaret and Raymond Underkofler. She was married to the love of her life, the late Fred D. Mehne for 54 years.
Drea grew up in Portage, Wisconsin and graduated from Portage High School. She went on to graduate from the Milwaukee Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She was a dedicated registered nurse for 40 years. She began her career in Portage and moved to Mauston, where she worked at Hess Memorial Hospital, which later became Mile Bluff Medical Center. She was also a gifted knitter.She often donated hats to the maternity ward at the hospital. Many children in Juneau county went home for the first time with a hat made by Drea. She loved telling stories, reading, cooking and music. She was known for trying new recipes and forinviting her family to stop by and pick up food, especially her baked treats. Walking into her home was met with whistling tunes and the aroma of her day’s work. She always shared quick-witted expressions such as, “Bless your heart,”“Aww poor little bug on a wall,” Oh shiviget,”“Oh Mylanta,”“Male specimens,” “May God bless you and the devil miss you.”She was a strong, independent, feisty, thrifty, generous, kind, witty and selfless woman.
Drea is survived by her children: Mike (Barb Augustine) Mehne of Niagara, Wisconsin, Fred (Sue) Mehne of Tomah, Wisconsin, Bridget (Doug)Wells of Mauston, Wisconsin, John (Jeri) Mehne of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, Dan Mehne of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, David (Tammy) Mehne of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jeff (Amy Adams) Mehne of Appleton, Wisconsin, son-in-law Dr. P.M. McCormick of Mauston, Wisconsin; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; Mike, Jr. (Bin Wang) Mehne and son, Liam of China, Sara (Jim) Dunk and son, Gideon of Racine, Wisconsin, Steven (Emily) Mehne of Denver, Wisconsin, Sean (Julie) McCormick and sons, Riley and Casey of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Kimberly (JK) Walsh and children, Jasper and Dylan of Mauston, Wisconsin, Meaghan (Daniel) Marple and children, Teagan, Maclaren and Fallyn of Columbus, Ohio, Beth Hoff and sons, Dalton and Dayne of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Christopher (Marla) Mehne and daughter, Ariel of Savannah, Georgia, Kathleen (Josh) Fullerton of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Lisa (Kurt) Reed and children, Mackenzie (Patrick Biebel) Reed and their son Finnegan of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Carson, Madisyn of Appleton, Wisconsin, Jennifer (David) Randall and children, Connor, Reagan and Hudson of Mauston, Wisconsin, Christopher (Sara) Wells and sons, Ruckson and Remington, of South Bend, Indiana, Andrea (Mark) Buelow of Waukesha, WI, Michelle (Ken) Lobenstein of New Lisbon, Wisconsin and children, Sammi Jo (Jon) King of Nashville, Tennessee, Steve (Rachel Huff) Lobenstein of Madison, Wisconsin, Soey Han (Kane) Sharp of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gabriella of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, Ron (Julie Steenberg) Thompson of Winneconne, Wisconsin, Miranda (Kaine Eggert) Ramge of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Brenna (Christopher) Carioscia and children, Payton, Paige, Christopher and Ella of Mauston, Wisconsin, Melissa (Scott) Uppena and sons, Matthew Mehne, Brady and Carter Uppena of Elroy, Wisconsin, Rachel (Scott Baisden) Mehne and children, Rylea Mehne and Mason Baisden of Mauston, Wisconsin, Danni Jo of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Josh Whartman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rachel (Ryan) Yacob ofChicago, Illinois, twin boys Ethan and Evan Mehne of Alliance, Nebraska and siblings Nancy (Stu)Daltonand Mike (Mary) Underkofler, both of Portage, Wisconsin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Raymond Underkofler, two sisters, Mary Jane Kleist, Patty Kegel, brother, James Underkofler, and daughter, Drea Mary (Deema) McCormick.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Mauston United Methodist Church. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 30th from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Crandall Funeral Home, Mauston and on Thursday from 10:00 am until time of service at Mauston United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Crest View and Mile Bluff Medical Center for their loving care of Drea.
