Hillsboro House Fire

Sheriff John B. Spears, reports a house fire that was reported to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, 911 Communications center on January 18th, 2018 at 10:47am.  John G. Wanless age 90 of Rural Hillsboro, Wisconsin reported the chimney fire and is also the owner of the house.  The property is located in the Town of Hillsboro, off from Subera Road, Vernon County. Hillsboro Fire Department, Hillsboro EMS, Wonewoc Fire Department and Deputy Larry Howell of the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the fire by Vernon County 911 Communications center.  Deputy Howell was the first emergency personnel to arrive on scene, at 10:53am, when he observed smoke coming from

Stolen Vehicle High Speed Chase

On Wednesday January 17th, a high speed chase involving a stolen vehicle, resulted in Michael Vierck, age 30, of Elroy, being arrested and receiving 5 citations. Shortly after Vierck alleged allegedly stole the vehicle, authorities spotted it travelling in downtown Mauston.  Police attempted to pull him over, instead he  led them on a high-speed chase with speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour.  The chase ended when he struck a tree in a field after leaving Sumiec Road. Charges include charges against Vierck include; Recklessly Endangering Safety, Operating without Owner’s Consent, Attempting to Flee or Elude Officer, Resisting an Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.
