Vernon County Man Injured While Cutting Down a Tree

A Vernon County man was injured while cutting down a tree on private property at about 11:50 a.m. Friday. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said 49-year-old Dennis Urbanek of Chaseburg was alone in the woods, while cutting down a tree when he was injured. Urbanek was located and rescued by his father, LaVerne Urbanek, at which time 911 was called. The Genoa Fire Department and First Responders responded, and used their UTV to transport Dennis Urbanek out of the woods. Sheriff Spears said he was transported to Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, as a result of his injury.
