Tomah Memorial Hospital Foundation Funds “Stop the Bleed”

A $1500 donation from the Tomah Memorial Hospital Foundation will allow the Tomah Area Ambulance Service to provide life-saving bleeding control kits in each building throughout the Tomah School District. Foundation officials made the contribution to fund the “Stop the Bleed” program which Tomah ambulance director Randy Dunford says is possible due to community partnerships.  Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign designed to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives on the scene of an accident or event. The National Trauma Institute reports that bleeding is responsible for 40 percent of deaths in the first 24 hours after a traumatic event. Dunford says he hopes the program can be expanded with the kits located in businesses and industries throughout the city.
