One Killed After Single Vehicle Accident in Vernon County

One person is dead after a single vehicle crash in Vernon County Sunday. According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle operated by 22-year-old Michael Peterson of LaFarge was traveling south on County Road S in the town of Webster when Peterson lost control causing it to travel down an embankment. The vehicle went airborne striking several trees. Peterson was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Vernon County Coroner Janet Reed.  During the investigation, officers learned that the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. Due to a combination of darkness, tall grass and steep embankment, the crash was not discovered until daylight. This is the first traffic fatality in Vernon County this year. Peterson was not wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
