Monroe County Emergency Management Update on Flooding
Monroe County Emergency Management reports of multiple areas in the County with ongoing flooding due to the storms that started around 6:00 pm on 7/19/2017.
The biggest concentrated area in the County that is experiencing major flooding is the South West part of Monroe County. There are numerous roads that are closed to include County Roads and Highways.
- State Hwy 27 from I-90 Interstate to Hwy 33 is closed with no detour suggested. Families are being evacuated along the way.
- In the City of Sparta, Long Court has been evacuated. Portions of Walrath Street, Long Court and South Water are closed. Evan’s Bosshard Park and Ben Bikin Parks are under water. 8th Court Trailer Park on South K Street area is also encouraged to evacuate.
- A section of Jackpot Ave is under water and closed.
- Village of Ontario and the surrounding area to include Hwy 131 is mostly under water and closed.
The La Crosse River is expected to continue to rise and peak at 13.5’ at around 4:00 pm. Flooding will continue until the River drops below flooding stages.
Evacuation Centers are set up at the Barney Center in Sparta and Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. If you need to leave your home, you can go to one of these locations to seek help.
The public is encouraged not to travel if it isn’t necessary. If you approach a flooded roadway, TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN.
The concern remains through tomorrow, Friday July 21, 2017 as more rain is expected tomorrow. Please keep track of the situation as it continues.
