Mauston Man Arrested After Hitting a Juneau County Squad Vehicle
A Mauston man was arrested for operating while intoxicated after striking a Juneau County squad car. According to the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, early Saturday morning, around 12:40am, two Juneau County deputies were assisting a State Trooper with a traffic stop on Highway 12&16, near County Highway J between Lyndon Station and Mauston. The trooper and deputies were standing near their squads when they observed a westbound vehicle driving at the estimated speed limit, but was on the shoulder of the road. The officers ran into the ditch to avoid being hit by the oncoming vehicle. The vehicle struck a county squad and pushed it into another squad, narrowly missing the officers. The operator, 47-year-old Kurt Salverson of Mauston was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, open intoxicants, unsafe lane deviation, and failure to change lanes when approaching an emergency vehicle. The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office.
