During National Police Week Nobody Wants To Be A Police Officer

National Police Week is a time to honor law enforcement officers who do the difficult job.  At the same time, Wisconsin police departments are encountering difficulty in recruiting new officers.  Departments in Dane County report they are only receiving one-third as many applicants as they have in past years.  Verona police say the volume of applications is only 40-to-60 percent of what it used to be.  The city requires a candidate have 60 college credits, but fewer college-educated students are entering law enforcement.  In 2013, Madison police received more than one-thousand applications.  That number fell to just less than 600 last year.
