Sparta Man Injured After Hitting Deer

One man is hurt after hitting a deer on his motorcycle Thursday morning. In a release, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a motorcycle operated by 47-year-old Matthew Gilsrud of rural Sparta was northbound on State Highway 27 to the north of Jackpot Ave in the Town of Leon. A deer ran out into the roadway and was hit by Gilsrud’s motorcycle, which caused the motorcycle to crash. Gilsrud was ejected from the motorcycle and received non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Mayo Health System Hospital – Sparta. The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Suspects Apprehended in Reedsburg School Burglary, Vandalism

Reedsburg Police apprehended three suspects for burglarizing and vandalizing Sacred Heart school last Tuesday night. More arrests are expected. The suspects, all males between the ages of 14-18, were interviewed and released. Charges of burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property will be submitted to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office and Sauk County Juvenile Intake. The total loss for the school is estimated at $8,000. Several stolen items were recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
