123 School Districts Receive High Cost Transportation Aid

Earlier this summer, the Department of Public Instruction distributed $7.5 million in aid to 123 school districts including New Lisbon and Wonewoc-Center, that had student transportation costs that far exceeded the statewide per pupil average. Districts were eligible for High Cost Transportation Aid if their transportation costs exceed 150 percent of the statewide average cost per member, which was $614.42 per student. Additionally, student membership within the district must have been 50 students or fewer per square mile. Single Vehicle Accident Sends One to the Hospital in Vernon County

One person was medically transported after swerving to miss an oncoming vehicle and went down an embankment in Vernon County. Sheriff John B. Spears said the accident occurred Wednesday, just after 2:00 P.M. on Carlson Ridge Road in the Town of Christiana.  31-year-old Hana S. Sedlmayr of Westby, was westbound on Carlson Ridge Road when she swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle went down a steep embankment coming to rest amongst a dry creek bed. Sheriff Spears said Sedlmayr was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital. Airbags in the Sedlmayr vehicle were deployed. Vehicle Crashes into Two Houses on Main Street in Reedsburg

A driver having a medical emergency crashed into two Reedsburg homes Wednesday afternoon on West Main Street. On Wednesday at 3:30pm, Reedsburg offices responded to a report of an “erratic” driver eastbound on West Main Street coming into town from LaValle. That same vehicle crossed the centerline and crashed into two separate homes in the 500 block of W. Main Street. It was determined the driver, 60-year-old Douglas W. King of Baraboo, was having a medical emergency at the time of the crash. Although there were no injuries at the scene, extensive damage was reported at both homes.
