Hatch, William Herbert, age 86

William Herbert Hatch (Bill or “Red”), age 86 died August 13, 2017, at his home.  Bill was the son of Samuel and Flora (Gauger) Hatch and was born on December 14, 1930, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.   Bill moved with his family to Pittsville, Wisconsin, when he was 8 years old and attended Pittsville Schools where he graduated from high school.   He met and married his high school sweetheart, Jean Ellen Arnold, in 1949.  They shared 67 years of marriage.  Bill started working at a young age when his family purchased the Pittsville Mercantile Store in 1938.  After high school, he worked in the road construction industry throughout the midwest.

“Paper Tigers” to Screen at Adams Theatre

On Monday, August 21, families in Adams County will have the opportunity to see “Paper Tigers” during a special screening at the Adams Theatre. “Paper Tigers,” is a documentary film released in 2015 and it follows a year in the life of an alternative school in Walla Walla, Washington that changed its approach to disciplining its students, and it changed the culture there in positive ways. The school depicted in the documentary became a model for breaking the cycle of poverty, violence and disease affecting families. Royall School Board Approves Personnel Items; Increase Lunch Prices

The Royall School Board held a special meeting on Monday night to approve some personnel items. First they approved a leave of absence for nine weeks for Paraprofessional Jennifer Gruen and also a teacher’s contract for Gruen. Elementary/Intermediate Principal Darcy Uppena said that the first semester, Jennifer Gruen can use the first semester as an internship that would fulfill her student teaching requirement. Then, Gruen would be the 6th grade teacher for the second part of the year.Superintendent Mark Gruen said it would be great for the students because of the continuity throughout the year.
