The 2nd Annual Juneau County Youth Livestock Expo – July 26-27
The 2nd annual Juneau County Youth Livestock Expo is just around the corner! It will be held July 26-27 at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Mauston. Over 134 head of livestock are already registered, from 76 different exhibitors.
“The number of head of livestock and exhibitors has grown significantly over our first year,” commented co-chair, Scott Firlus. This show will feature some industry leading judges and is designed to promote education amongst all exhibitors.
The event will kick-off Wednesday evening with the sheep and goat show. Thursday morning hogs, followed by beef will be shown. That evening a buyer’s reception will be held at 5:00 pm and the market animal sale will commence at 6:00 pm. All events are free and open to the public. “If you are interested in seeing what the show and sale have to offer, please plan to stop by,” commented Firlus.
Organizers say that the community has been extremely supportive of the event. Sponsorships have allowed them to put together a show and sale that is one of the best in the state. Special thanks goes out to these amazing sponsors: Walsh Cargo, Big Gain, Langer Ag Services, Langer Shady Lane Farm, Walsh Grain, J-ME-J Farms, BTU Management, Mill Haven Foods, Knuth Family, Horn Transport, Wisconsin River Meats, United Coop, Rowe-ling Acres, Laridean Glass, Golden Bluff Farms, Hartje Lumber, Compeer Financial, Royal Bank, Krus Fire & Security, Kevin and Sue Riley, Bug Stompers, Morris Excavating, Elroy Fair, Lulich Landscaping, Meisters Forest Products and Lulich Auction.
Members have not only been busy preparing for this show, but also competing in livestock judging events as well. In fact, Juneau County recently had 14 students participate in the Animal Science Days event in Wood County. Two teams (one junior and one senior) will be advancing to the state competition on July 24th in Lodi. “We spent months preparing for livestock judging, often traveling to Grant County, to sharpen our skills for the contest. And it paid off – we are going to state again this year,” said Ethan Lulich, junior team member.
It’s an exciting time for the Juneau County Youth Livestock Association and they would like to invite the community to attend the upcoming Juneau County Youth Livestock Expo.
