Three Injured in Crashes Caused by Freezing Rain
Three people were injured in separate crashes due to freezing rain Saturday in Vernon County.
The first crash happened about 8:45am. 79-year-old Stephen L. Kozerowitz of De Soto, WI and Huntley, IL, was operating a vehicle eastbound on State Highway 82 in the Town of Wheatland and encountered ice from freezing rain. He lost control and the vehicle crossed the centerline. The vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, struck an uphill embankment, and rolled onto its left side. The vehicle slid along the roadway surface, rolled back onto its wheels, and came to rest slightly off the westbound lane. Kozerowitz suffered minor injuries and was transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, where he was treated and released. A passenger in the vehicle, 78-year-old Barbara M. Kozerowitz, was not injured. Both the operator and passenger were wearing seatbelts. There was no airbag deployment.
In the second crash, around 9:30am, 55-year-old Clyde Guist of Boscobel was traveling north on Highway 61, south of Readstown, and due to freezing raining and slippery roadways, he lost control of his vehicle, which traveled over an embankment and rolled over. He and his passenger, 31-year-old Jennifer Guist of Boscobel, suffered injuries that were non-life-threatening and were sent to Vernon Memorial Healthcare. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts.
These accident are still under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
