Paul Ryan Will Not Run for Re-Election

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Today (Wednesday) that he will not run for re-election.

Ryan told reporters that he will serve the remainder of his current term but will not seek another one in the November election. Ryan, 48, said he doesn’t want his three children only to know him as “weekend dad” and said he’s ready to spend more time with them after two decades in Congress, including the last two-and-a-half years as speaker.

The announcement has set off a scramble in Wisconsin among Republicans to replace him, with state Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, former Republican National Committee chief Reince Priebus and state Rep. Samantha Kerkman among the possibilities.
