What personal and professional qualities, and what life experiences, make you qualified for the bench?


If someone were to ask you whether you will impose lenient or harsh sentences on offenders, what do you tell them?

Each candidate has stated they wish to start special courts (examples include drug, alcohol, veteran, ect.) How do you propose funding these programs? How will its success be measured?

As Judge, what do you see as your role in helping the community address public health concerns like drug addiction? What, if any, direct involvement do you think a Judge should have in addressing this concern?

What is your sentencing philosophy in regards to drug related offences?

Are you aware of whether there is a backlog of cases in Juneau County, given there is currently only one sitting Judge in a two Judge County? If so, how would you plan to handle the back log?

When sentencing, how would you respond to a plea agreement removing the Domestic Violence enhancer where Domestic Violence has occurred?

What is your opinion on ordering discretionary sex offender registration on sex offense cases that don’t require mandatory registration?

What is a Crime Victims Bill of Rights? Why is it important?

What, if anything, do you believe you can do to more quickly address the need for permanency for children lingering in foster care?

Every criminal defendant has a right to demand a speedy trial in which a trial is necessary, within 60 days of the defendants initial appearance or 90 days for defendants with felony charges. Why is this important to our judicial system?

Numerous people are being released for crimes on cash bonds and signature bonds, some for felonies.  Since one factor for the court is to consider in setting bond, is the protection and safety of the public. What will you do to ensure the public is protected when setting such conditions?

What are your thoughts on perceived light sentences for repeat offenders?

What are the challenges of handling judicial warrants required for law enforcement to obtain a blood draw during arrest?

Both of you worked at the Juneau County Justice Center in the past.  Please describe how you will work with piers, subordinates, and all the other staff in that building.

As Judge, you are sworn to uphold the laws of the State of Wisconsin.  Do you believe you can set aside any personal or political feelings, regardless of whether they are contrary to the laws? Will you be able to rule fairly and appropriately?

Do you have any experience in handling civil cases and family law? How will you educate yourself to be able to handle these cases fairly and effectively?

What is the greatest lesson you have learned as an Attorney appearing in front of other Judges that you feel you will implement if you are to become a Judge?

What new ideas do you plan on implementing?
