Jarchow tops Zimmerman in western Wisconsin GOP primary

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State Rep. Adam Jarchow defeated Rep. Shannon Zimmerman in a Republican primary for a northwestern Wisconsin state Senate seat. Jarchow, of Balsam Lake, advanced Tuesday to take on St. Croix County medical examiner Patty Schachtner in the Jan. 16 general election. Schachtner won a three-way Democratic primary. The seat is open after former Sen. Sheila Harsdorf left to serve in Gov. Scott Walker’s administration. In Racine, legislative aide Greta Neubauer beat Racine Alderman John Tate II to win the Democratic primary there. She is unopposed in January. Neubauer worked as Rep. Cory Mason’s aide, before he vacated the Assembly seat after being elected Racine mayor. Republican Rick Gundrum won a four-way primary in a conservative district northwest of Milwaukee. He faces Democrat Dennis Degenhardt. That seat is open due to the death of Republican Rep. Bob Gannon.
