>>Wisconsin Health Department Says 2nd Round Of Flu Is Hitting State
(Madison, WI) — Wisconsin isn’t finished with the flu season yet. The Wisconsin Department of Health says a second round of flu is hitting the state, just as it seemed one of the most severe flu seasons in decades was ending. The latest threat comes from influenza-B. It is less severe than influenza-A was, but it’s still a concern for young families. Doctors say it is hitting young people harder than the older population and more children are being hospitalized. The health department says it could be a month before the threat is eased.
>>Petition Started Calling For More Severe Penalties For Abusive Mother
(Eau Claire, WI) — A Wisconsin woman has started an online petition asking an Eau Claire judge to give the mother of two children the most severe penalty possible. Michelle Mayer is accused of letting her two children be sexually assaulted in exchange for money and drugs. Investigators say she injected the children with meth about 100 times to keep them awake longer so they could be assaulted for longer periods of time. The Change-dot-org petition asks the presiding judge to give Mayer the maximum penalty allowed by law, 80 years. More than 12-thousand people had signed the petition by Monday.
>>DNA Helps Green Bay Police Clear 3 Cold Cases
(Green Bay, WI) — D-N-A evidence has helped Green Bay Police solve three sexual assault cold cases. Investigators say they had no good leads until D-N-A from the attacker in those cases was entered into the national D-N-A database. The break came last October when Dunn County investigators submitted D-N-A from a sexual assault case they were working. It not only matched the Green Bay case from 2011, it also matched an assault in Chicago. Police aren’t releasing the name of the 56-year-old suspect because he’s not in custody hasn’t been charged yet.
>>Female Suspect Held In Killing Of Eau Claire Man
(Menomonie, WI) — The 20-year-old woman accused of killing an Eau Claire man is scheduled to make a Dunn County Court appearance today (Wednesday). The body of 24-year-old Alexander Woodworth was found in a parked car last week in a rural area near the town of Spring Brook. Ezra McCandless is from Stanley and she will face a charge of first-degree intentional homicide. She is being held in the Dunn County Jail.
>>Statewide Quarantine For Emerald Ash Borer Established
(Madison, WI) — With the invasive emerald ash borer present in 48 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties, the entire state has been placed under quarantine. Efforts to stop its destructive spread have included quarantines in the past, but only on a county-by-county basis. The action announced by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection means businesses handling ash wood, untreated ash products and hardwood have to sign agreements specifying efforts to avoid the spread of the E-A-B. Firewood can’t be moved from quarantined to non-quarantined areas. The state still discourages moving firewood inside Wisconsin borders.
>>UPDATE: Accused Killer Is Former Husband Of Victim’s Wife
(Wisconsin Rapids, WI) — Wisconsin Rapids Police say the 59-year-old man arrested for shooting a worker in a bakery shop was the former husband of the victim’s wife. Police say they don’t have a specific motive for the killing yet. First-degree intentional homicide charges are expected to be filed against Gary Bohman. Video surveillance appears to show him shooting 39-year-old Christopher Race to death at the Higher Grounds Bakery and Coffee shop last weekend. Race married Jacalyn Marie Bohman Rice in February 2015, two-and-a-half years after Bohman divorced her. He’s being held on one-million dollars bond.
