DARLING PROMISES NEW SENATE LEADERSHIP
WILL IMPROVE WISCONSIN STATE GOVERNMENT

MADISON - The November 5th Election's resounding return of Republicans to the majority in the state Senate will result in an immediate return of civility, integrity and cooperation to state government, according to state Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills).

"The citizens of Wisconsin want us to solve the state's fiscal problems without engaging in a partisan battle with our new Governor-elect," said Darling. "If Governor Doyle sticks to his campaign promises not to raise taxes, together we can pass a budget that shrinks governmental spending while still protecting our vital programs without having to endure gridlock."

Coupled with the current Assembly Republican majority team, Senate Republicans plan to promote an agenda of no tax increases, less government spending, increased bipartisan cooperation and a reformed relationship between local and state governments. In her role as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance, Darling says she's eager and committed to tackle the multi-billion dollar budget deficit the right way.

"As a majority team, Senate Republicans are committed to fiscal responsibility now and in the future. We've got a lot of tough decisions to make, but the citizens of this state have entrusted us to make them, " said Darling. "Jim Doyle campaigned on the promise of no new taxes and less government spending. If he introduces a budget that fulfills those two promises, I expect the legislature will have a very positive working relationship with him."

Darling also reiterated her commitment to help set a positive tone to reflect the strong tradition of the Senate and the legislature in general.

"We must return civility to the entire legislature by crafting positive working relationships," said Darling. "Voters have given us an individual and collective mandate to go back to work, fix the budget problem, and do what's right for the people of Wisconsin."
