16 State Senate Special Election
Candidates File Economic Interests
Sixteen candidates for the Special Election in the 21st and 71st Assembly Districts have filed their Statement of Economic Interests with the Ethics Board. The deadline to file was May 30, 2003. The Candidate Statements relate to the special July 22, 2003 election to fill two vacant seats caused by two Assembly Representatives moving to the Senate.
The Ethics Board has received Statements of Economic Interests from all sixteen candidates who have filed nomination papers seeking ballot status for the July 22, 2003 Special Election. The Assembly Districts involved are District 21, which is in the Milwaukee area, and Central Wisconsin's Assembly District 71.
Central Wisconsin is replacing Julie Lassa who won the right to represent Wood, Portage, Adams and Waushara counties in the State Senate. Lassa (D-St. Point) won over Donna Rozar (R-Marshfield) by a wide margin. By winning that Special Election, a month ago, Lassa replaced Kevin Shibilski, who had resigned his Senate job to become Secretary of the State Department of Tourism under newly elected Governor Jim Doyle. (See PAGE TWO and RESIGNATION and LASSA WINS). [Also See PRIMARY FORUM SCHEDULED Below.]
Those candidates who wish to become new State Senators that have filed the required Statements of Economic Interest are:
Assembly District 21:
Allan Foeckler, Karen Sostarich, Mark Honadel, and James Ruetz.
Assembly District 71:
Gary Hawley, Jesse Higgins, Cynthia Lynn Kieper, Corey Ladick, Louis Molepske, Jr., Neal Nealis, Jo Seiser, Steven Senski, Dennis Bankson, Leo Harris, Jacalyn Szehner, and Amy Heart.
Wisconsin Statutes require that a candidate file a Statement of Economic Interests in order for the candidate's name to appear on the election ballot.
Statements of Economic Interests are open to public inspection. Visit the Ethics Board website and click on "State Officials and their Financial Interests" to find out how.
