KREUSER ELECTED LEADER
OF ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATICS

Madison - State Representative Jim Kreuser was elected Assembly Democratic Leader by his peers in the first meeting of Assembly Democrats since the November 5 general election. Representative Kreuser replaces Spencer Black of Madison and becomes only the second Assembly Democratic Leader from Kenosha in Wisconsin history.

"I am proud and humbled by this honor. I'm proud of my record. I'm proud of my work as Assistant Leader, and I'm confident that I can lead Assembly Democrats effectively through the upcoming legislative session and beyond,"  Krueser stated following his leadership win.

"We're faced with tough challenges: a huge budget deficit, lost trust in our elected officials, and a polarized legislature that doesn't find compromise easy to come by. Assembly Democrats are united in our resolve to represent the needs, hopes and aspirations of the working men and women of Wisconsin,"  Representative Krueser continued.  "That resolve will not be lost. It is at the core of our beliefs. That commitment will keep us on track as we address the challenges that confront Wisconsin's state government."

" We will work with the new Governor to move this state forward and we will work with our Republican colleagues to find common ground to do the people's business. Our constituents who put us here expect that we will be true to our convictions. They expect us to solve some rather momentous problems. I am confident that we can succeed," stated Representative Kreuser.

Representative Kreuser sees great opportunity for Democrats with the victory of Governor-elect Jim Doyle, but acknowledged that the gubernatorial victory was bittersweet due to the loss of the democratic majority in the State Senate.

"Assembly Democrats need to stick together and work with the new Governor to get our agenda across. We believe in traditional Wisconsin principals: support for working families, good education, efficient services, and sound government. Assembly Democrats will make a difference this session," stated Krueser.

The new Democratic Leader  says he plans on following through on the goals of last session including the focus on working families, coupled with measures geared towards the next budget cycle to chip away at the state debt while maintaining vital services.

RICHARDS NAMED ASSISTANT MINORITY LEADER

MADISON--Rep. Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee) was voted assistant minority leader by his fellow Assembly Democrats. Rep. Richards represents the 19th Assembly District that includes the Eastside, downtown and Bay View neighborhoods of Milwaukee.

"I am truly honored to been elected to this position by my friends and colleagues," said Richards. "I am committed to working hard with our new Minority Leader, Rep. Jim Krueser, on our campaign effort.

"As a member of our leadership team, I will help promote a clear message that we are fighting for Wisconsin's working families," continued Richards. "We have an enormous pool of talent, skill and energy among our members and staff. I am committed to actively engaging as many members and staff as possible to form a unified, winning team."
