2018 Flood Has City Leaders Considered A Big Move

Rock Springs trustees have discussed moving the village’s downtown district out of the floodplain after the damage done by flood waters earlier this year.  Plans are on hold while the community in Sauk County waits to hear about a federal disaster declaration.  Another approach could be to fortify low-lying areas of the village against high water.  Most of downtown Rock Springs is subject to flooding from the Baraboo River.  Water levels reached 27 feet earlier this year — just one foot below the all-time record.
